In Mendoza, and in particular the Valle de Uco, an area with less than 200mm annual precipitation, the vines receive a basic preventative treatment with copper sulphate. Vine varieties susceptible to powdery mildew are treated with specific products.  The vines are treated 3 to 4 times, depending on each year’s climatic conditions.

In order to attain high quality products, the vines are pruned early to ensure an even distribution of buds and to prevent grape clusters ripening unevenly at different times. Further pruning is carried out to prevent the growth of further buds and small clusters which do not reach the desired maturity. After this task is completed shoots from the first 3 leaves are removed, allowing the correct amount of exposure to the sunlight. Vine-growth equilibrium is achieved through irrigation; the rate of the plant’s growth should not be too vigorous and not excessive. The canopy is maintained between 1m and 1,10m. The vineyards are cultivated using techniques which have a minimum impact on the environment, and in the short term, organic certification will be acquired. Agronomist: Daniel Spigatin
